Christianity & Conservatism Conference.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
W dniach 19–20 marca br. Uniwersytet Wrocławski wraz z Europejską Radą Przedsiębiorczości, Nauki i Kultury organizuje międzynarodową, interdyscyplinarną konferencję „Chrześcijaństwo i konserwatyzm” (Christianity & Conservatism Conference).
In 19th–20th March 2026 the University of Wrocław, together with the European Council of Enterprise, Science and Culture, will host an international, interdisciplinary conference entitled “Christianity and Conservatism” (Christianity & Conservatism Conference). Over the course of two days, twenty‑nine speakers drawn from the academic world and its wider social partners – from the United Kingdom, the United States, Malta, Norway, Hungary, Romania and Poland – will take part in the discussions. The meeting is intended, on the one hand, to offer an in‑depth analysis of the internal crisis of contemporary Christianity and its consequences for the presence of religion in the public sphere, and, on the other, to provide a forum for reflection on the genealogy and present forms of conservatism – from classical articulations to contemporary currents – in the light of the Christian heritage and the challenges facing modern democracies.
The programme is structured around two complementary thematic sessions devoted respectively to Christianity and to conservatism, each comprising both English‑ and Polish‑language panels. This design makes it possible to examine the relationship between Christianity and conservatism within a broad comparative horizon that encompasses doctrinal, institutional and political dimensions. A further aim of the organisers is to foster a culture of disagreement in which serious intellectual reflection is combined with genuine respect for differing positions. For this reason, the programme brings into conversation voices representing various confessional traditions, divergent schools of political thought and a range of institutional experiences.
In a wider social perspective, the conference seeks to contribute to a more measured and better-informed debate about the role of Christianity and conservatism in contemporary societies. The presence of partners from beyond the academy – churches, advisory bodies, expert organisations and representatives of the business community – is intended to help ensure that the conclusions of the discussions find their way into practice: the shaping of public policies, social communication, civic education, and dialogue between religious communities and state institutions. In this sense the conference aspires to inaugurate a lasting network of cooperation in which the academic community and its social partners together seek answers to the crisis of social bonds, the polarisation of public discourse, and the tensions surrounding the religious and ideological identity of the contemporary world.
